Live captioning for Drunk Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet

Services: Live captioning
About the client:
Drunk Shakespeare originated in New York City in 2014 as an off-Broadway production on the premise of professional actors performing Shakespeare after taking six shots of alcohol. Productions have since expanded to Chicago, Phoenix, Houston, Chicago, and Washington D.C.
The challenge:
Providing live remote captions for a live theatrical production is always a challenge — more so if it’s by drunk actors performing Shakespearean English mixed with modern references.
Because Drunk Shakespeare is such a unique production, they wanted a live captioning partner who understood their specific needs and the core of the show.
This meant captions that kept the show’s humor, pace, and style intact, and could ably follow multiple performers.
Additionally, our captioner had to rely on overhead mics, as the performers didn’t use lavalier mics.
Our solutions:
We provided a live captioner to remotely caption Drunk Shakespeare’s December 29th Romeo and Juliet show. The show was livestreamed to our captioner, who captioned the show live via Streamtext.
We received the script beforehand, but our live captioner was on stand-by the whole show to manually add any ad-libs.
