Bringing ESPN’s 'The Last Dance' to Spanish-speaking Audiences

About the client

Owned by the Walt Disney Company, ESPN is one of the most recognizable sports broadcast networks in the world. Aside from broadcast TV, it also produces sports documentaries via ESPN Films, including 2020's The Last Dance featuring Michael Jordan.

The challenge

ESPN reached out to Cinepros to add Spanish subtitles to The Last Dance as it was slated for streaming on ESPN, Netflix, and Hulu. 

Because of broadcast deadlines, this sometimes meant having only a few days turnaround time for each hour-long episode (10 in total!).

Our solutions

We assembled a small team of Spanish translators and proofreaders to focus specifically on The Last Dance and maintain subtitling quality despite the quick turnarounds.

Translating the documentary also meant keeping all the sports lexicon intact in Spanish, which required careful consideration.

We also provided localization for ESPN’s 30 for 30 series. The Last Dance is now available to stream on Netflix and 30 for 30 on Netflix and Hulu!
